Solan og Ludvig: Herfra til Flåklypa

Solan og Ludvig: Herfra til Flåklypa was released in 2015 and is Qvisten Animation's second stop-motion feature based on Norwegian author and artist Kjell Aukrust's famous characters and universe.
I designed most of the new characters which happened to be the bad guys and some animals. I also did concepts of extras from the rivaling village. Most of them ended up in the final movie.
The bad guys; Kleppvold, Slåpen, Emanuel Desperados, as well as the vusvol creature were already existing characters from Aukrust's books and had to be adapted from the illustrations. The extras and the goat I had to design from scratch based on Aukrust's distinguished style (he hardly ever drew children and animals, so very little reference was available there).

Dyrene i Hakkebakkeskogen

The famous Norwegian children's book by Thorbjørn Egner from 1953 was just made into a stop-motion feature by Qvisten Animation and released this Christmas.
I came up with some of the very first design ideas. Egner's loose illustration style and well established characters should be recognizable, but they should also work in a three dimensional world.
The main character, Klatremus, was the first design I did and he remained pretty much unchanged all the way through to the finished film.
Here are some of my concepts as well as some reference sketches for the animators.
And here is the trailer.
